A cataract for each month of the year. Make this fascinating journey between waterfalls impossible would be a perfect excuse to discover some of the most beautiful natural places on the planet. There are twelve proposals to tackle the awesome moment to see the wild water tumbling among the rocks.

1.- Epupa (Namibia)
North of the country of golden light, attached to the border with Angola, there is a very special waterfall. Few places in the world we encountered with the magic of this place. The Kunene River falls by a fall in 30 meters and a multiple subsequent fall foreshortening makes the rocks and slides at a flow rate of infected crocodiles. The big jump is almost baobabs hanging rocks, by equilibrium. Cataract is the land of the Himba, the tribe of mud, as primitive and authentic as endangered by the dollars and alcohol.

2.- Iguazú (Brazil and Argentina)
It is not only essential cataract, is one of the most brutally beautiful natural areas of the planet. How to describe Iguazú? It is pure beauty. Wilderness. Violent poetry. From the Argentine side the water is felt, its roar is mixed with the touch. From the Brazilian side is covered by its magnitude. Overwhelm the image reaches. Little more to say, no words can describe this place. Go.

3.- Victoria Falls (Zimbabue y Zambia)
It is another great waterfall on the planet, excuse the Falls. Share and Iguazu border between two countries, in this case Zimbabwe and Zambia. From Zimbabwe in spectacular cut in a row over a mile of falling through a narrow gap between the rocks. In Zambia touch the water, the navega el Zambezi, eaten in the Livingstone Island, from which literally referred to the precipice. Helicopter must fly over and see a huge river falling apart from a broken. You can spend hours there watching a sculpture of nature.

4.- La Fortuna (Costa Rica)
Next to Arenal Volcano National Park, in Costa Rica, There is a waterfall tucked into the belly of the mountain. La Fortuna is a waterfall that makes its way through the thick vegetation. It's down a row of steps leading to the foot of the waterfall. The pool is of narrow width, under 20 meters, and the water pushes you violently against the rocks. Then, the flow is lost through a river full of rocks and small waterfalls where you can enjoy unforgettable bathrooms.

5.- Augrabies Falls (South Africa)
An unknown national park north of South Africa, near the entrance to the Kalahari and off the beaten track. The water falls into three hops between huge rocks that are full of baboons who contemplate the spectacle. The nights there, under a starry sky and listening to the roar of the Augrabies, are unforgettable, only. The place has a warm and romantic spot that follows you for life.

6.- Murchison Falls (Uganda)
The largest national park in Uganda is home to the falls discovered by the explorer Samuel Baker 1864. From the nearby hotel and highly recommended Paraa Lodge approached us in a boat full of tourists to an island near the jump. Before we had admired from above the brutal force of the Blue Nile water encased in a narrow canyon. The river has had more magnetism in me is filled with foam caused by the violence of the waterfall a few miles before reaching. I especially remember a British tourist in uniform as the explorers of the nineteenth. He climbed a rock, there amid the current spirited, and immortalized the moment with the conqueror ceremoniousness just treading hostile territory. He baptized as "Speke".

7.- Tis Isat (Ethiopia)
The "smoke roaring" (meaning in Amharic) lives up to its name. No doubt. It is the largest demonstration Poderia Blue Nile Ethiopian in their journey. Do not expect frills. For failing, there is not even handrails to avoid falls. The terrain is steep and care must be taken with lean. The fall is awesome, agitated by all these clouds of steam rising into the sky challenging. When I visited, wet season in full swing, jarreaba and my main concern was to protect the camera with an umbrella. The ground was muddy. The experience was exciting. We were alone in front of that huge waterfall 400 meters long obscured by tons of sediment (responsible for fertilizing the Egyptian civilization for millennia).

8.- Pokhara (Nepal)
The waterfall is named Dave a legend that knows not the true author. They have a tourist, name Dave or David or God knows exactly as it was, fell into his violent waters and disappeared. Waterfall is a small but very wild when the water in times of monsoon breaks into a heavy rain. Today is fenced, probably not have to rename the cataract, but retains the appeal of the roar of the river water crashing against the rocks Trishuli.

9.- Nyanga (Zimbabwe)
In the Highlands of Zimbabwe, after crossing a thick forest, you get one of the highest waterfalls in the world. Its 760 meters do not see a whole the fall if one does not hang from the rocks of the natural view. The silence is deafening, the waterfall seems distant and only flight of raptors reminds you that there is life in that place. The way there is complicated; must go through a difficult stretch of road over 30 km. It is worth coming to a place so forgotten everything, to make us forget ourselves.

10.- Eyipantla (Mexico)
This impressive waterfall in the state of Veracruz, a few kilometers from the town of San Andres Tutxla, is the abode of Tlaloc, the rain god worshiped by the Aztecs. This ravine of the three water (that's what it means in Nahuatl) is sandwiched between the lush vegetation of the area. The traveler can go down a path of the humble town of Comoapan, roadside, to the base of this water curtain 40 meters wide and 50 High. Down there, calm water river journey Papaloapan, but as we approach the jump, the sense of freedom is increased. Soaked but happy only recover the notion of reality when I find my shoes sunk into the mud of the wetland. Since then I always travel with a boot in your suitcase.

11.- Cola de Caballo (Spain)
In the National Park Ordesa, one of the most beautiful in Spain, its location can not be better. After passing the pastoral Soaso harrows and trace the natural canyon, Horsetail discovers his magic at the foot of the Three Sorores: Monte Perdido, Marboré the cylinder and Soum de Ramond. The murmur of the waterfall up the pace of the traveler who can not help but make a stop at his feet, as close as possible to their base jumping from stone to stone. There, twinned with Nature, you forget the world and its miseries. It is one of the best therapies for anxiety that I know.

12.- Tamerza (Tunisia)
A place can be special or disappointing depending on when you visit the. We recommend that you go to the small waterfall oasis Tamerza mountain at sunset. In the midst of this spectacular piece of desert a faucet is opened between the rocks. When the sun oasis is empty, even closed many of the tourist shops around the entrance. There is almost no, after a while comes a Tunisian family bathes her children while we put our head in a natural pool impossible. Nothing to do with the vision of the next morning, when the lot was full of coaches and scores of 4×4 it revealed that this solitary place particular had become meat for tourists.

Thanks to the three. Fernando, agree with you that you only Tis Isat, is Africa at its purest, has the charm of a wild place that still has not given to tourism. Regarding Horsetail, Laura, no doubt is a cataract that has fueled the dreams of my childhood, when the lost mountain was crowned with the epic of unreachable heights

Hola Any. What you mention is not correct. The Iguazu River, where it flows into the Parana marks the triple border Argentina-Brazil-Paraguay (a 23 kms from the falls). Iguazu Falls, mentioned in this article, are on the border between Brazil and Argentina. Paraguay does not have access to the falls.
