Top 7 / Colonial Cities

For: Daniel Landa

For a Spanish, travel to Latin America is a way back home, but with a renewed joy. I like to think beyond the gains of the past, Latin countries today have a heritage in stone and an irresistible personality. They have contributed their color, tropics and their way of understanding life. The colonial cities we returned to Spain with a sense of shared parental. I selected seven sites outside the legacy that we leave, they give us back an improved version of our own culture.

1.-Morelia (Mexico)

Even her name is princess air, even a general who bequeathed his name to the city. Morelia has aqueducts, as they did the Romans, and churches looking Castilian. We must listen to the lilting accent of Mexicans to settle out of Spain. It has the charm of sturdy rocks softened by the almost eternal spring.

2.-Granada (Nicaragua)

Topping the list of cities in colonial American territory. Were quick to found this city. And 1524 and yellow were building churches because the magic of the Indians pale survives the temples of our Spanish. Today, to stroll through the main square, one wants to stay and live, in tropical comer fruta, to admire the fury of the volcanoes surrounding Granada without entirely losing Hispanic roots that inspired.

3.-Guanajuato (Mexico)

It is one of the liveliest cities of America. Cervantes Festival has to care about our culture from the name, but adds the rancheras concerts. Guanajuato was invented with the gold of its mines now decorates the head of the churches. But here there are many more flowers in Spain, more colors on the facades and tequila to brighten the nights of Mexico.

We must listen to the lilting accent of Mexicans to settle out of Spain. It has the charm of sturdy rocks softened by the almost eternal spring.

4.-Arequipa (Peru)

The city that gave birth to Mario Vargas Llosa is located in a rare. Next to the deserts that die at sea, at the foot of volcanoes. But there, in that place you go back to feeling at home. Maybe it's the Plaza de Armas, with bows fine, perhaps by the cathedral and its monasteries and its Andalusian patios and driveways. Then, only then you try the pisco souer, eat the care, see the dances and understands that no, still in Peru, along the southern deserts and volcanoes.

5.-The former (Guatemala)

I could live here forever with my soul installed in the tropics and heart back to Spain. Ancient history has as much personality as. Water Volcano ruined a city that rose again with thick walls and the fine music of the marimba. He has the bearing of the Spanish knights and Indian sensibility. It is the perfect communion of faith and traditions imported always.

6.-Zacatecas (Mexico)

I spent some time looking for the cathedral of Burgos around every street. Its buildings consevan the solemnity of those who wanted to pay homage to its roots. I found stunning baroque facades and theaters, but this place is surrounded by cactus and painted in the streets one can stop to taste the tacos. The combination is puzzling.

7.-Cartagena de Indias (Colombia)

For Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the most beautiful city in the world. Here the architectural precepts of the colonists lost the pulse of the local joy. The whole city is a vibrant color palette and while their places have balconies Cordoba, traditional dances accelerate the pace of this place. Neither the strength nor the Spanish walls prevent Cartagena city developed its vocation Caribbean.

What we have left…?

From Ciudad Juarez a Ushuaia, Latin cities adapt the imported culture with their own convictions. The Cathedral Mexico City Aztec temples was built over, Cuzco did the same with the Inca culture, but no annular achieved conquest civilizations that were there, always, long before we.

I taste of what you have considered Granada en tu list. Although Granada has some shortcomings, it has a lot of magic in its pedestrian La Calzada street, its temples and houses of vibrant colors, yellow, light blue, violet, lime green, and the simplicity of the Nicaraguan people….But also its Mombacho volcano, its cozy islands in the great lake of Nicaragua (this is all Granada!!!)….your opinion is interesting, I am Nicaraguan….I love Antigua Guatemala instead!
