Mid twenties and it's Friday. We have finished working and we met at my house, We drink tea and decided to go out for dinner. We take the car in and out of the hospital where we live and work. So far so normal. For eight at night and be touring Ngong Road no much traffic as expected. We arrived at a new shopping mall Nairobi. Security guards the entrance make us lose the car and come to inspect. We spent two controls more before arriving at the restaurant, where a jazz band is playing and people enjoy the environment.

We could be in any city in the world: all are friendly, the food tastes home and could forget for a moment all kilometers separating me from my land. But then we started talking, relaxed, and Mina anecdote tells how he was kidnapped last week.

Started talking, relaxed, and Mina anecdote tells how he was kidnapped last week

goodbye jazz, Goodbye friendly atmosphere, goodbye wonderful spring temperature. All we continue eating, but not yet my friend, waiting to hear one of those brilliant stories, own screenwriting, here they come as far as possible in normal life. A life like mine, a boy 25 years working in computer and Airtel has happened in Kenya time enough to know how to avoid problems.

It Mina and John, one of the guys who are part of the group of friends, They are returning from buying a Thursday at seven p.m.. To avoid police checkpoints famous Ngong Road were caught in one of the parallel streets (Kindaruma Road) and they saw a van tried to overtake. As no hurry, They slowed down and waited for the passing van, how it happened. But, instead of moving forward, the van swerved and blocked their path. Then, six types with K47 were lowered, They were removed from the car to Mina and John, They beat them, they took everything they were wearing them and went to the van. Two types disappeared with the car Mina.

The van swerved and blocked their path. Six armed men got out with K47, they beat them and climbed into a van

The first thing John saw was that between Mina and he, in soil, There was a man lying that according to his words- corpse seemed person. The next three hours passed them in the van touring Nairobi. Occasionally they stopped, rates were lowered, robbing people walking along busy streets and little went on their way. They did not kidnap anyone else.

John fell asleep. mine, It is having myopia, I could not see anything because he had lost his glasses when guys had beaten him to get him out of the car. The man who was lying in the middle did not move. One time they stopped, one of the guys asked for more money to Mina (John was still asleep) threatening to kill. Mina explained he had no money, that the only way was to take him out of an ATM with the card that already had them, they just needed to give them the pin.

One of the guys asked for more money to Mina, threatening to kill. The only solution was out of an ATM

The problem is that the man in charge of going to get money, It seemed seriously affected by drugs or alcohol, and he was not able to remember the four digit pin. At this point, Mina began to fear that the meter the wrong number, They thought they had deceived them and killed. So my brilliant friend just came up a tune for man to remember the numbers with ease.

(I must pause the story to ensure that'm sure Mina was able to invent a song, which it is not an ornament of history. I must say also put my hand on fire because John really was asleep and went to sleep the three hours of his abduction.)

The manager seemed to go to take money seriously affected by drugs or alcohol and was not able to remember the pin

Fortunately, man was able to take 30,000 ksh (about 300 EUR) in the ATM, so my friend continued to form part of the category of living in this story.

The men followed the same scheme: steal-stop-go-stop-steal-follow- until one of the times robbed and did not return to the car. Mina then woke John, who he was in charge of looking around to see if the guys were close. John was also commissioned to realize they had left you put the keys in the van, so Mina did not think twice and jumped into the driver's seat, where he realized two things: the first and most important is that he saw a pepper, whereupon he would not be able to drive to the nearest police station, and John knew not drive. The second is possibly carrying a dead man in the van and get to the police station with a body meant having to explain too much.

They decided to get rid of man.

They got out of the van and took the body, then he began to move (no longer dead in this story), he was placed back in the van and started driving Mina, I was blind as, guided by John.

Possibly they are carrying a dead man in the van and get to the police station with a body meant having to explain too much

They arrived at the police station Kilimani safe and sound, denounced his adventure and after tying ropes knew that the man who seemed dead (but he was alive) was the owner of the van and had been the victim of the six guys with AK-47.

Mina's car appeared days later.

My friend decided to start using contact lenses. He learned that Kenya is not a country to have a high degree of myopia and rely on glasses.

And that's life here, the everyday and the extraordinary always intermixed. As says Mina, when old we have many stories to tell our grandchildren. And I know you all think so: "If we reach old".

go odyssey! It is admirable to continue living in a place where you have the danger hovering around you. But there must be many other aspects that will compensate by staying there.
