A few years ago I was invited to the presentation of a project which sought to develop one of those counties that do not leave anyone indifferent: El Bierzo. Wild, nice, historical, excellent wines and nestled in a natural circled. Today that project is a perfect alternative for lovers of mountain hikers who want to discover the secrets of El Bierzo. A place that smells of chestnut, Grape own, a forgotten people and a disused mines.

And is that El Bierzo is a region surrounded by mountains. A fascinating circle of hills on which the project has woven double. "We want to move this neglected area through tourism and economic boost", account those responsible for "La Mirada Circular". A nature trail around the whole region. More 300 km, in 15 steps monographic. A kind of Camino de Santiago, the famous route signposted Xacobea, in the midst of steep peaks. Almost abandoned villages, ancient trees, huts, brañas and animals. Each section has its own sense: the path of carbon, Bear, of silence ... And in the middle, Bierzo as untreated, marrow or the stunning Sierra de Ancares, and adjacent to Galicia.

If you enter the project site that has the, www.lamiradacircular.com, high quality, fully interactive visual, stages can design them to suit you interested in making. I just spent three nights in those lands. Three days in which gave me time to contemplate the largest European chestnut (is one of the photos above), to walk and climb up Médulas a peak from which to contemplate the immensity of the mountain turned into the great mine of the Roman Empire (as we always say and comply, explain the story in VAP) or lost by narrow paths that end in almost uninhabited villages where smoke from a chimney takes you to a coffee palloza where.

As each week in the journal include traveler a place chosen for their special nature. La Mirada Circular has it. It is an outstanding debt of this writer who knows that some day return to those lands to complete the circle that began in the Bierzo and is not over yet. Perhaps when he returns from Africa.

El Bierzo is my land, a special place, good people and good wine (as you say in the text). We are not Lion, and Galicia, and Asturias… We are El Bierzo

So, El Bierzo is only one of the most unique regions of Spain and thanks to these initiatives is becoming known tourist. I've only done a small part of a circular path of the eye, but I think a very positive.
