"Four years preparing the question and I do not understand the answer!!”
Rodrigo garcia. "Chosen ashes"
If I have made something clear these days in Egypt, it is that in general the ideologies are confusing, talking about politics is a lot like talking about religion; reason is conspicuous by its absence. I have adopted the role of annoying person who asks the why of everything, and most of the time I get the answer: "It is so, you will understand. " Adults said those things about life when I was little, and the passage of time has not solved any doubt; I've grown up and I still don't understand practically anything.
Chance made me run into George Ishak |, founding politician of Kifaya, movement in 2004 He paved the way for the Revolution. Among his achievements, it stands out that he managed to break, somehow, the culture of fear, got the right to demonstrate under the Emergency Law (that entailed the violation of multiple rights) and the right to elect the president. "And as you well know," he tells me- For the Egyptians, the president is half president and half God..
For the Egyptians, the president is half president and half God
They were the first to start protesting in the streets in 1977, and George insists on this point –»We have manifested a lot –he declares proudly– starting with the time that Mubarak changed the article 76 of your Constitution to acquire more power, until when the group 6 April burned a picture of Mubarak and I was jailed for supporting them". Obviously, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to ask you a few questions to try to understand more clearly what is really going on. Here they go:
- Has there really been a revolution? Is the Arab Spring Still Alive?
-Kifaya is revolution. When you manage to change the regime of a country it is revolution. The problem is that now the National Democratic Party are trying to discredit the revolution of the 25 January because we attacked their bases; we try to fight the fact that the rich make all our money and the poor fall and fall and fall. That does not interest them and that is why they defend that the real revolution was that of the 30 June, when the military took control of the country. But that is false. And despite what they want to believe from power, it's still spring, the revolution is still alive. See how the Egyptians are boycotting the elections by abstention. Isn't that revolution?
Egyptians are boycotting elections by abstention. Isn't that revolution?
-However, fear is perceived in the streets, not a few want a strong man as president and deny the ideas of freedom and revolution.
-The culture of the people has not changed yet, the problem is that the rule of the Muslim Brotherhood was disastrous. I am one of the people who supports them and who fights for their rights , but I have to say they are stupid. They are liars. They are fools. They have failed to control the country. They are ignorant. So people don't like them, and they believe that Al Sisi will restore peace to the country, And there is the error, because that's not true. This country needs strategies in terms of education, economy, health, not a strong man.
-There are those who see, however, the Muslim Brotherhood as victims of political repression.
–The Muslim Brotherhood have, first, to apologize, and then they should review their ideas. Then the repression will become weaker and weaker and in about twenty years they can return to politics. People hate them. There is no place for them right now.
The rule of the Muslim Brotherhood was disastrous. They should apologize and review their ideas
- What plans does Kifaya have for the military regime??
–We are going to wait three months to see what the situation is. We understand that right now people need hope, without hope no one will move. This hope can only come from a relaxed environment, and you can only be relaxed if you have security. When people feel safe we will start moving again.
-To end, What has been the role of Sabahi in the elections?
-Sabahi is a friend of mine and I consider that he has been very brave to be there. Has a program and an organization in its proposals, it's not just a puppet, as they say in the media.
Last Tuesday 3 of June, Egypt took to the streets to celebrate the official results that make Al Sisi in president. They say it's the answer. What I don't know to which of the 1000 questions, still unanswered.
