To Daniel Landa and Javier Brandoli, journalists and globetrotters, we like Namibia. Much. So, which may be the country in the world in which we have spent the most time without having lived. That's why we suggest you travel there 13 the 29 June 2025 us. We will make the country from east to west, and from south to north. We will not leave anything, or practically nothing, by knowing: Windhoek, the Basters, the Namibian Kalahari, Fish River Canyon, Namib desert, apple pies, Swakopmund, vino, seals, Skeleton Coast, Damaraland, Opuwo, Epupa Falls, herero women, The Himba, the Kunene River, Ruacana and Etosha Falls. And furthermore, We will delve a little into the South African Kalahari, el Kgalagadi National Park, one of those lesser known natural gems of Africa.
Why Namibia? What trip do we propose?, how many days, at what cost? The second question will have its answer very soon, We will publish it shortly with all the details on this page, but first we want to introduce ourselves and explain why we chose this destination, and because we feel that we can narrate it and teach it in a special way. The journey is not about us, it's about them, the protagonists, what are people, landscapes and animals in front of which we will wander.
What we propose to teach is the fruit of all these years of working and narrating the country. Our relationship with Namibia is that of journalists and travelers
We return to Namibia because we love it, because we have traveled and narrated it, As you can see by clicking on the links below this text. The, sincerely, because maybe we need an excuse to come back. What we propose to teach is the fruit of all these years of working and narrating the country. Our relationship with Namibia is that of journalists and travelers, Both concepts have always gone hand in hand on our routes there.. And 2025 it will be something similar, but now with you.
And 2008, Landa passes by recording his documentary A World Apart. Travel the country from south to north, and when he returns to Madrid, after having crossed the entire globe on a car trip of more than two years, someone asks him: What would you say is your favorite country?? And the, that carried mud, ice and dust on the soles, answer: “I liked them all, but if I had to say one maybe Namibia would be my favorite”.
And 2010, Brandoli (I) I crossed the country while reported for El Mundo on a journey that began in what was then my house, Cape Town, and ended up in Uganda, sheltered by the Mountains of the Moon. And yes, after crossing it from north to south, I confirmed that Namibia had something different from the rest. The absence of life in that immense land spread a strange serenity in which men and beasts were confused..
I returned in 2014. So I did it on a car expedition that started from Madrid and ended in Cape Agulhas (the southernmost point of Africa). I entered through the Katima Muilo border, Zambia, and I left through the Nakop border, South Africa. Then I wrote a text in this magazine, which I replicated in my book The African Macondo, that reflects my passion for that land. Those years of correspondent in southern Africa I published various reports about Namibia. About wandering lions, the poaching that destroyed the vultures; or about the cheetahs, hunters hunted.
We document how the virus affected an already empty country before the threat of hugs and sneezes
Landa also returned again. He did it in 2018 to record a new fishermen documentary of hall, of fleeing fish, hands with cracks, trawl nets, brave women and hollow lives. I cross the desert through the sea and the clouds and, thence, in the heights, He understood that “in Namibia there are no corners or edges”.
And it was in 2021, in the middle of a pandemic, when we both decided to go together to our home country. Landa had finished recording his documentary Atlantic. He only had the end left, after achieving the feat of documenting all of West Africa in those times when the borders had bars. I joined that part of the way to help in the production and report this time for El Confidencial in Spain and Postimees in Estonia.. We document how the virus affected to a country already empty before the threat of hugs and sneezes.
Again, for almost a month, We traveled through Namibia from north to south. We interview tribes, the Himbas and the bastard, we check the fight to survive human, seals and elephants, we climb dunes next to the ocean, and we interviewed jackets who protected lions. As we leave again, We got on a truck that hitchhiked and took us to Uppington., South Africa, We knew that it was inevitable to return to Namibia.
And so it was. And 2024, I decided to return. I rented a car and did more than 5.500 kilometers that are the essence of the route that we now propose. It was a reconnaissance trip that should support this proposal: limarla, think about it and measure it.
I returned to Epupa Falls, refuge from the himbas, and I understood that each town, every woman, each boss I was chatting with, They showed me a Himba world different from the one I had known for so many years..
Because Namibia has that quality, that with each return a new Namibia is discovered. The Cape Cross seals were now behind a fence, The Damara seemed cornered by the lack of rain, elephants migrated to the now green pastures of the north, there were more restaurants in Swakopmund, Solitaire's apple pie became a souvenir, the Sossusvlei dune path could be done with a 4×4, also improved the Opuwo sand road, A veteran Namibian guide told me that you can now go from Epupa to Ruacaná via the D3700, next to the Kunene River, and in Windhoek the posh houses and the suburbs of the poor grew.
And with all that, with those wickers that we have told you here, with those reasons and those passions, We propose a new return that will be a new beginning. Of 13 the 29 June 2025, for a maximum of 8 people and a minimum of 6, We propose to all get into two cars and discover Namibia again.
We want to know the complexity and challenges of a country full of disparate tribes, understand their serious environmental problems, reflect on the conflict between conservation and hunting, learn a little about the challenge of growing such a fragile economy
We drive the cars, we reserve the accommodations we like, We propose the stops that seem interesting to us and we look for the characters that we think will help us understand the environment. But that does not mean giving up changing and contributing new things with your contributions.. The trip will have a journalistic part. We do not visit towns just to take photos, If not, we start conversations with their people. We want to know the complexity and challenges of a country full of disparate tribes, understand their serious environmental problems, reflect on the conflict between conservation and hunting, learn a little about the challenge of growing such a fragile economy. We have written many articles and recorded many images talking about it with the protagonists.
The concept is not that of a classic organized group trip. The concept is a trip in which we accompany everyone to take a trip through Namibia. We are a tool, a conversation, but the journey is for the travelers, which is what we seek.
We will shortly provide all the information available to be able to join this adventure., but write down the dates if you want to come and travel to, in our opinion, most beautiful country we have ever known.
