Mexican cenotes: dive to the underworld
For the Mayans under water there was indeed an underwater population, populated with demons and servants of these demons: the twelve Gods of death or Lords of death. It is for this reason that the cenotes were for decades a source of offerings and punishments and today they continue to be the subject of archaeological research of great interest to decipher the complex pre-classic system from fossil remains.
