A change in the look

The grand finale are never easy. The World Cup in South Africa left a trail of nostalgia, new calm. The streets were emptied of people, Environment, of wild nights and returned, in part, Shadows. I say partly because I have the feeling that South Africa has moved a little rascal skin. This country, the 46 million and half times the size of Spain, has sufficient resources to build a future green: only need to close wounds and put books on poverty. It is not just spread the wealth, still mostly in the hands of the same, is also beginning to change attitudes that are learned from school: "Nobody has to give me nothing, I'm able to do so ".

For me the World Cup has also meant a certain aura of victory. “¿Spain? Congratulations”, is the phrase most often I have heard since that mark Iniesta goal that dried my throat. Since then I started to say goodbye to this place. My two weeks here are still a long and happy farewell. It looks funny how mutate. Back to places already visited and understand that the look with different eyes. The surprise is passed to the understanding, to the quiet routine.

This week I rented a car and have gone down to Cape Agulhas, the southernmost point of the continent (the story of this fascinating place is published in VOD in a week). Also want to go to Hermanus, whale sanctuary, on the other hand, I saw on postcards. Are there whales today?, I asked the woman in the parking. “Sí, a montón ", tell me. I rushed with my camera to watch the spectacle of the reproduction of cetaceans and found one hour after eating a beachfront ice cream and making a seagull photos. One of the codes I've learned to decipher here is that you answer yes to the question of whether whales as the question of whether it is ET. surfing with Paris Hilton. They smile, tell you what you want to hear and leave. Returning the car the chick looked at me with a gesture of "must be sleeping".

No review, they are lovely here, but if ever you get lost in a city desist from further hearing the response if one second pretend to "Where the hell is that place?”. I just like answering, with 250 Sign unfinished, and just 20 minutes after listening to another guy who sends exactly the opposite direction.

But, as I said, Now everything goes differently from that 15 March in which things do not fit me in the eyes. I went back to Kalk Bay, the fishing port that I get drunk just to get here. I went to smell the scent of fish at auction, to hear African rhythms, to watch the sea lions and seals vessels stirred under. I did it as calmly, unhurried, without getting carried away by every moment in which I had the feeling that I could miss something. The entire route of the Peninsula of Cape Town is fascinating. Muizemberg go and see the booths change colors where surfers; antiquarians go Kalk Bay and eat fish at the market; pasar a Simon Bay, where there are coves and clear waters over a mile of coastline inhabited by free African penguins; Eat some mussels with tomato or a seafood risotto at the Bouldder's Beach restaurant-hotel; contemplate the solid rock of the Cape of Good Hope and understand that here opened a path to another world; up Chapman Peak surrounded by waves; stop at Hout Bay and watch the huge bay one day dreamed of becoming an independent republic; savor the vineyards of Constantia that drunk to European Romantic writers and return to the shelter of Table Mountain and the Twelve Apostles at sunset. It's a circuit round, of no more than 100 km, to be enjoyed slowly, in time. A first this quiet goodbye, rich leather and weak stomach, lost in the last corner of Africa.

This will be the last post I write on my blog under the name "From South Africa"; next, but I'll still be on this earth, I come out of the 6 August, and will be called "A trip to Africa". Start the day 1 a new route that I hope I stop watching mid-October, a Uganda, Mountains of the Moon (Kenya may then reach, depend on the money, forces and the desire). The Long Goodbye, after four and a half months stay here, has begun.
