Guanajuato: City of Life and Death

And then we discovered that in this city, color is painted out, has a sinister side. No its mines are now closed, nor its strange tunnels, in, is nothing: are their dead, because here even the dead refuse to stop living.

Can not think of a better name Guanajuato Mexican. In its streets rival the tunas with mariachis and euphoria of the nights of tequila extends daylight in the flower market. Guanajuato is light, smells like carnations and a culture. If their places would be more happy to laugh. The boys play in the colonial kiosks, mothers walk their children shaking rattles and the elderly sit in front of the gardens to see how to grow bougainvillea.

To make matters worse, the city has the largest cultural event in Latin America: el festival Cervantino. Thousands of people gather each year to hear the music of the most famous singers of the continent, or to see the works of the Teatro Juarez, solemn facade that houses the art. From Cantinflas to Chavela Vargas, from the New York Philharmonic to Enrique Bunbury, many celebrities have stepped scenarios Guanajuato. Operas, dances, movies… everything fits into place with transcendent vocation, intended, above all else, preserve the Spanish language as most precious cultural legacy. The festival's name is a tribute to the language of their colonizers, here today and defend it more than those, with more pride.

Many more settlers came to draw prosperity crazy with their beaks, their peoples and their future plans.

So, air of Quixote and flavored guacamole, Alfonso and I arrived to the city, not knowing where to begin recording. Even without being festival season, we witnessed a display of life everywhere.

Several centuries before, the city grew more purposeful metal: gold and silver from its mines. A mad conquistador named Antonio de Obregón y Alcocer was determined to dig under ground, a good day 1760 -I would say, optimal, discovered that lodged in his bowels as gold vein ever found to date. Many more settlers came to draw prosperity crazy with their beaks, their peoples and their future plans.

Stocked coffers of the Spanish and churches with altarpieces rose bright and everyone was happy because the money was clear that happiness. Bubble was brewing in those days. They even built a network of tunnels to the drain, that remains to this day. Today, cars arrive at the city below, through a maze of underground roads and wishes to acquire the very Gallardón. The backs of the houses hang on the walls of the tunnels in such disarray that one just suspecting that the city is looking backwards. It seemed surreal, as if the architect had lost the papers. Everything was possible in the world of golden dreams and if airports did not empty is because there were no planes.

Today, cars arrive at the city below, through a maze of underground roads and wishes to acquire the very Gallardón.

But mining bubble burst and the last bar of gold, the party's over. Or so you might think, but Mexicans have the gift of reinventing. Today the mines are empty and filled bars, the churches are losing the luster of the past but in the streets not skimp with music. You could not walk Guanajuato, lost not a moment in its corners, mingle with the students and getting that laugh teenage default arising gay cities.

And then we discovered that in this city, color is painted out, has a sinister side. And again you have to look in the basement. No its mines are now closed, nor its strange tunnels, in, is nothing: are their dead, because here even the dead refuse to stop living.

The Mummy Museum has a name that leaves little room for suspense. In the city of Guanajuato mausoleum found over 100 incorrupt bodies. The great mystery is the fact that these bodies were never embalmed and therefore is no explanation to the event. Every year new bodies are maintaining their skin, expression of men and women living.

Even remains exposed, in a dark room, Figure of a mummified fetus, which was never born and that did not quite die.

The dead only scary when they look dead. Visit the museum showcases the puzzling for a scientist, exciting for a sadistic and dark for the rest of us, we aspire to be. Due to this phenomenon that prevents the decomposition of the bodies, you can see the face of some who were buried alive by mistake yet, you can also see the picture especially gloomy and even some children remain exposed, in a dark room, Figure of a mummified fetus, which was never born and that did not quite die.

When we go out for some air, remained on the streets mingling layers of rogues and mariachi hats, flowers and tequila, because cities eternal, death is only one way to go live.
