Top 7 / Cold Beauty

For: Daniel Landa

The cold I've always elegant result, without the birdsong and the murmur of the rain. The cold does not usually say anything. It has something hypnotic that blue ice, the mist at dawn, snow. I have chosen seven white landscapes, seven secluded corners where at least I felt so marginalized that I thought I was going to map. It is in those places where you feel most traveled, without the presence of other men, numbed by the weather and a rare beauty, that still fascinates me.

1.- Glaciar the Mendenhall (Alaska)

It is necessary to cross a frozen lake to reach the first icebergs of one of the most beautiful glaciers in North America. It has the ice blue under too much pressure. The glacier cracks supporting the weight of years as if it were to collapse and around the rivers cascade down to finish one of the most spectacular pictures Alaska cold.

2.-Northern Cape (Norway)

There is nothing more to Northern Europe. When the traveler reaches North Cape can only return. It is a legendary destination, a biker's dream, is the end of an adventure. The globe appears to the traveler with a wink, reminding you that there has been the faith and the road. The Midnight Sun, eternal sunsets and sea everywhere is the reward of a long road, lonely, beautiful.

3.-Lago Baikal (Siberia)

We arrived at when it threatened the winter Baikal, with the first ice looming on the banks of the world's deepest lake. On the island of Olkhon, enjoy the mystique of a place so remote that even the Russians themselves punished chemical to the Soviet regime deported. Here you can find Buddhist symbols, an Orthodox church and some descendants of the first prisoners sent to the heart of Siberia.

The cold does not usually say anything. It has something hypnotic that blue ice, the mist at dawn, snow.

4.-Sequoia National Park (California)

As the waves break on the beaches of California's most sought, the snow was falling on the giant trees of Sequoia National Park, across the state. Here the logs are sized prehistoric, out of proportion. You feel a gnome or a buffoon, because the forest is something grotesque in its beauty, great tan, as vertical, you can not take much time the size of the redwoods.

5.-Perito Moreno Glacier (Patagonia)

Another landscape without restraint. The entire city of Buenos Aires could be on the surface of Perito Moreno, but here no one, can not walk over the edge of the moraine. The rest is a maze of ice, boundless icy mass. This is perhaps the world's most accessible glacier, wild spectacle available to the tourist.

6.-Valley of Geysers (De Kamchatka Peninsula)

Requiem deserves this valley. A few months after walking around the white fields of this part of Kamchatka, an earthquake buried the valley. We have the consolation of some images stolen from volcanic vents, to that line of smoke rising from the snow. It was a poetic landscape, with rivers frozen sulfur, incandescent holes and an outdoor temperature of -28 º C.

7.-Villa de las Estrellas (Antarctica)

Even the name is something of a fantasy. It is the world's southernmost population, much further south than Ushuahia. In Antarctica family living, between glaciers and sea elephants. Vimo including an Orthodox church, because the Russians are ruthless with their faith. The King George Island is one of the corners of the world inhabited and its beaches, Penguins do not consider their fate.

What we have left ..?

There are other extreme latitudes with volcanoes and wonders: Iceland is a good example. Greenland by inhospitable also deserves to join the list, with sheltering confines recent Eskimos. And in the icy mountains, Beauty is always beautiful. Alaska Denali Park, Himalaya whole, landscapes of southern New Zealand. Global warming, After the, is not as comprehensive.

Ice, as fire, has a special magic. Catch, himnotiza, invites to dream… The icy worlds, even small like a leaf, become the most beautiful pieces of jewelry that nature can sculpt. Reality ephemeral, even the immense glaciers of Greenland, of the Andes… Because unfortunately all we witness the beginning of a period in our planet's climate, unknown to mankind.

Daniel, thank you for this tribute to cold, the ice, the silences, the past… (because we see a glacier in retrospect, as occurs when we look at the stars). It is clear, this video is all a Trip to the Past.
