If someone had forgotten where he came, only set foot in the airport doubt instantly vanishes. Slot machines everywhere and the incessant jingle mail us welcome Las Vegas, casinos nirvana, the Mecca of gambling. Our final destination is San Francisco, but who is reluctant to make a stop in a city to be visited at least once in life when you have such a shot? Nowhere else can dive into a set so excessive, in microcosm neon like this. Las Vegas is superlative, extravagant, ostentatious, sublimely tacky at times, extroverted, worldly, uninhibited, noctívaga and provocative. Who would dream up in the desert of Nevada one city conceived by and for the game? Who decorate with replicas of the Eiffel Tower, channel Venecia, of the Statue of Liberty?

So, of the blue, Las Vegas forces you to climb a long hill full of prejudices (more difficult to disintegrate an atom, as such a Einstein). You, therefore, spend the weekend arrives Strip rigor-, Strip abajo- and leave with the same clichés or, instead, bother, in a hostile environment (this is not Falls Iguazú, Love at first sight is discarded), to find any reason not to hate the rest of your life. With two nights ahead (no day in Las Vegas, flag arria city with light), I decided without hesitation for the second option.

Las Vegas is superlative, extravagant, ostentatious, sublimely tacky at times, extroverted, worldly, uninhibited, noctívaga and provocative

The first shot is down the price of hotels. Impossible to sleep cheap in Las Vegas. For not. Even The Strip (the avenue that casinos succession tacked end to end of the city) can be accommodated without mourning dress pockets. The Circus Circus, Without going any further. Un hotel familiar (slots filled, course) Proportions, yes, to which one is not accustomed. Suffice to note that to get to the reception they get on a train that slides along a monorail above the ground. Oh! And it is the only hotel in my life when I've done the checkout in the same room, by TV. To find, upon arrival you are given a map that helps guide you in this mini-city corridors dotted with almost 4.000 Room.

Before you leave, have to make peace with the stomach after the disgrace of menus plane. Place, truth, not very conducive to reconciliation. But at least it's cheap. For twelve dollars per head we can enjoy the hotel buffet (without a drop of alcohol including), nothing extraordinary but enough to supply the pantry.

The biological clock (which indicates the time in Spain) mark the four o'clock, but The Strip expected and should be savored from beginning to end in south. Going, course. The first steps along the great avenue are not exactly dazzling. We, yet, too north. The proximity of Halloween costumes has already released to the street. Proliferate beer bottles and daisies. There is no room for confusion: is, basically, touring the hotels, pry into your receptions, walk them like cathedrals, game because temples are, After the. All this topped with light and sound shows (and water, much water), as taking place in the artificial volcano The Mirage periodically.

It is, basically, touring the hotels, pry into your receptions, walk them like cathedrals

Amazement ceremony is what drives us from hotel to hotel. We took our first little play us dollars. Ten to 25 at roulette. Go! Sale el 21. Pity, because the bet on a single number pays 190 a 1. We just lost 19.000 U.S. dollars. Makes you want to try again, because it is that, that follow. But we prefer to follow the tourist vigil ignoring the temptation ludópata. Of Bellagio the The Venetian, cardboard with its canals and gondolas stone pale against the mere mention of Venice.

Among extravagant costumes, drunkenness and necklines budding uninhibited decided to retreat past one o'clock (this itself, local time). We have to ask for help to find the exit door at the Venetian. On the street, Latino youth address any man who stroll just offering discount cards in consumption in different sex-shows. We got on the bus that runs along the Strip to return to the Circus (two dollars banknote) and when it reaches our stop we got a driver for monumental anger rise with the vehicle still running. We got off remembering their dead.

The second night we decided to get away from the Strip in search of that perspective to absorb the inevitable glare of Las Vegas. A taxi leaves us in the Stratosphere, the tallest skyscraper not only in Las Vegas, but throughout the Western United States. From its privileged position north of the main avenue, provides an excellent overview of vice city. To up the elevator, three times faster than a normal, have to pay twelve dollars head. The elevator is Mexican. I wonder if I get dizzy with so much pressure change. "I'm used to", replies with a smile commendable someone who spends all his working hours locked into three square meters.

On the floor 108, Swivel bar scene sublimates. With a budweiser in hand makes you want to stay and live here, if it were not for the small amusement park located on us (¡Is, on top of skyscrapers there until a rollercoaster!) suddenly he allowed the other side of the glass to a group of tourists tossed screaming into the void by a mechanical arm.

My favorite place is Fremont Street Las Vegas, where the city opened its first casinos. No one should go through Las Vegas without getting up here

But my favorite place is away from the Las Vegas Strip, in Downtown. It is the original street where the city opened its first casinos in the years 50, that is too small when the passion for the game overflowed. Freemon Street was relegated by the Strip, but the original casinos are still there, with neons that are already part of the collective imagination.

On the verge of becoming a ghost town, investment 70 million in the years 90 changed their fate. The pedestrian street was accompanied by a show of two million multicolored lights each evening full of music and color Freemont Street. All American-style and enlivened by small live concerts at street.

The frenzy takes us from hotel to hotel, as if this were a game of Monopoly, until tired feet melt

No one should go through Las Vegas without getting up here. With a football full of beer (sacrilegiously served with straws) we walk across the street in a frenzy continued until we left in a taxi Mandalay Bay, the hotel south of The Strip (here the buffet comes out 25 U.S. dollars), wearing a stunning aquarium that why there are fees (30 U.S. dollars). Excalibur, New York-New York, Bellagio again, Montecarlo, Paris… From hotel to hotel as if this were a game of Monopoly. Until the soles melt tired and cry out for a bit of respite. We said goodbye to Las Vegas because I am at this point looking for a chapel to remarry dress Elvis.

I loved walking back to Las Vegas with this post. However I have to say, at least to me, the city itself seduced me at first sight, then, to spend hours I was scribbling view…

Very well chosen title. I've never been, but what you say is pretty close to the idea I had of the city. I agree with you that it is a sacrilege to serve beer with straws. The elevator must be made of a special paste and above, still smiling Go trabajito!

Thanks Carlos. Not that the lost, rather it is that I stopped win ($19.000). I bet ten bucks a number and were paid 190 for every dollar wagered. If you drop by Las Vegas be sure to get close to Freemon Street and climb the Stratosphere. They are unique experiences. And if you have the opportunity to get on a plane if only to visit the Grand Canyon in the day. Abz
