Journalist Diego Cobo (Santander, 1986) is the winner of the Michael Jacobs Scholarship for traveling chronicle 2017. The jury of the Gabriel García Márquez Foundation for the New Ibero-American Journalism (FNPI) and the Hay Festival have awarded the VaP collaborator for his project "Black Footprints", a series of reports that explores the embers of slavery in Jamaica, Gambia and southern United States.
Cobo's work has been chosen from 233 projects from 19 countries and the scholarship 5.000 dollars with which he has been awarded will allow the winner to continue tracking the consequences of slavery in Cuba and Colombia. Diego Cobo began to publish his reports in VaP in september 2011 and since that date his chronicles from Cuba (where he worked on cooperation issues), Sarajevo, Alaska, Route 66, India, Jamaica or Peru have followed one another in the pages of our magazine.
