In the region of Vélez, inside Almeria, is "sleeping" symbol in a cave across the region. The Indalo, also known as the keeper or the man embraced the rainbow, is tattooed on the rocks next to a large group of other prehistoric representations. Rock Art. It is estimated that the paintings may have been there more than 6.500 years. One way to communicate with the great goddess of nature or shape their daily. There are many theories. The Cave of the Signboards, as known to the exact place where the drawings are (in the town of Velez Blanco), Almeria was discovered by Antonio Gongora y Martinez in 1868. It was declared a National Historic Landmark 1924 and subsequently a World Heritage Site. It is a journey in the middle of nowhere. For those who come to enjoy this wonderful natural environment which is the Cabo de Gata, a recommended stop on the way. A deviation from the Mediterranean, coming from the north.

Everyone has seen the famous Indalo, Bumper many cars and trucks, but few know that it is a symbol found in half the planet. Always, in all civilizations, has been given a magical. And in Almeria? The first thing in sight to see the drawings on the stone there is the kind of life led by those ancient men. If man has painted for centuries what his eyes looked, these paintings show that hunting was the main livelihood of those people to eat. Nature is also part of what there reflected. They are, seems goats and, perhaps, deer, although it is difficult to distinguish each figure. It also painted a picture more interesting and revealing that the Indalo: the Wizard. Putting all the paintings seems that the cave is actually a sacred representation, a way of asking Mother Nature to help, a way of showing respect.

The shaman

Many of the images that remain in the shelter of huge stone that are a little faded. The color of the paint is a dark red to, eg, perfect view of the sorcerer or shaman have to force some sight. It is curious that all the fame of the Neolithic traces have the Indalo, when really the most interesting figure is that of the witch. It emerged the religious beliefs of these men. In the same picture we see a man who holds two sickles, with horns and holding a heart.
The picture is similar to the goat or the devil. That, obviously, in the eyes of modern man. The similarity has led to many speculations made about this character and to be given a forbidden character then it was probably. Actually, the picture does show that those tribes had beliefs in the afterlife. Mostly because the possible heart holding in his left hand with a sickle suggests that rituals were made; probably animal offerings to the gods. Could be human? There is no trace of who made these offerings, but the picture does not explain.

The picture is similar to the goat or the devil. The similarity has led to many speculations made about this character and to be given a forbidden character then it was probably.

It seems that this is the main character in the big picture that is hidden in Almeria on a canvas of rock. Is much bigger than the others and is ornamented. The two horns that protrude from the head, who have contributed in part to increase his legend that it is the Devil, would actually, ornamental attributes. The sorcerer of the tribe retained with two sickles in their hands. Agriculture was also an important part of the lifestyle of those people. If the sorcerer is well represented is because the gods must know that they need your help to work the land.

The Rainbow Man

But even though the shaman is the most important figure in the representation, Indalo is what has become a media star of the Cave of the Signboards. There are two ways to approach this figure. On the one hand, local character and the series of coincidences that occurred to the man in the bow has the reputation it has today (was a society of artists who chose Mojácar the emblem of the province omo) . On the other, numerous representations on this figure are in different civilizations and eras that have nothing to do with each other.

For those who come to the cave waiting to see the same figure are seeing for years in Almeria, tell them not find a picture as outlined. You will see different figures, there is only one, in which a man is open legs and holding a bow on her head. Many understood that this was someone who embraces the rainbow, namely, that merges with the nature. Noting the drawing is a possibility, but when one looks at the whole performance seems that the explanation is another. About the symbols in which men are holding something around your head and shoulders are various figures of animals. They look like deer, although they could be goats, and say that none of the paintings is very nicely. Actually, the drawing is a man who aims his bow their prey. This is a hunter, a logical "if we understand that everyone stony canvas symbolizes the routine of the men of the Neolithic", Miracles explains, the guide in charge of teaching the cave.

For those who come to the cave waiting to see the same figure are seeing for years in Almeria, tell them you will not find a picture as profiling. You will see different figures, there is only one.

A universal symbol

The Indalo is not a representation that is only in the Cave of the Signboards. Actually, in other caves in the area, less known and inaccessible, there are similar representations. Also in Jaen, in the Cave of the Rook. No wonder, Hunter was in part responsible for bringing food and it is logical to draw him to seek protection of the gods. But, Curiosity is the diversity of similar figures have been found in different countries and different times. The most famous is a relief depicting a procession of several priestesses of Seti I, in the temple of Ramses II at Abydos. If the photos are the similarity is complete. It is also almost equal representation of God Egyptian Schu. On the island of Hawaii is almost identical drawings known as petroglyphs. The list of cultures that have used this symbol is extensive, up in caves in Zambia African indalos rest. There are also Punic and Greek origin.
In all cases it is a sacred figure that is in contact with nature. A magical symbol that is part of world history. We may never understand those people they meant to represent Rainbow Man. A mystery that sleep from the night of the times. One way to understand the present and the past. The man interacting in their environment and trying to find questions to which no answer. History.

PD. The town of Velez Blanco has a beautiful castle, Arab fortress built on a, well-preserved. Sixteenth century and its last reconstruction is part of the complex of forts that were built in southern Spain after the reunification conducted by the Catholic Monarchs.

I did not sleep in the village or near. I stopped on the way to one of my favorite places of rest, Cabo de Gata. For those who go there, I recommend the Hotel Cala Chica, Las Negras. Have a room with a Jacuzzi on the terrace fascinating. The Hotel de la Nature, in Rodalquilar and Hotel Mikasa, in Aguamarga, other options are highly recommended. Anyway there are a lot of supply at different prices.

It's the same with the overnight, My dining experience was a beer with Olives. Sure there are a good place to eat, VaP. but we do not recommend anything that we have not tested.

As with the hotels and for those who go to the Cabo de Gata, there they would recommend to eat at The Tasquilla,in Rodalquilar. Very carefully, best dinner on the terrace in summer and near the fireplace in winter. Charter developed and good wines. Need to be ordered anchovies stuffed with cheese.

[tab:highly recommended]

Give a quiet walk through the historic center of the small town. From a castle there are beautiful views of the region.

It is a beautiful place. I've been there a few summers and it is worth. No need to go to Cabo de Gata to stop by, worth, at least, spend a weekend. There are other caves nearby that I can not remember the name were very nice Tami.
