Dublin: I love Ireland

Ireland is a country that makes you love it, perhaps, is the most romantic of all countries of the earth. And it shows in his two main passions: literature and music.

Ireland is a country that makes you love it, perhaps, is the most romantic of all countries of the earth. And it shows in his two main passions: literature and music. There is a territory around the planet where the writers are so loved, so much so that creative works are exempt from taxes. For a writer not look like an ordinary citizen, but he is admired and revered. Since the burial of Daniel O’ Connell in Glasnevin Cemetery (Dublin), in the year 1847, never met such a crowd at a funeral ceremony and the burial of Brendan Behan in the year 1964. Note that O'Connell is considered the father of Irish independence movement and died of natural causes, while Behan was a young alcoholic writer who left very little work and died of a coma ("I'm not a writer with alcohol problems," he used to say., but an alcoholic with writing problems"). The people of Dublin gave them both the same recognition.

There are few cities in the world that can boast of having given birth to so many writers

As to the music, Ireland is a singing people relentlessly. Their traditional songs in the thousands. And every night, in hundreds of "pubs" throughout the country, and even in the distant geographies inhabited by a community in Irish-Australia, New Zealand, U.S.…- the old ballads are heard without a break: «Wild Rover», «Whiskey in the jar», «Dirty old town», «Finnegan’s Wake»…, and clear, «Molly Malone», a kind of unofficial national anthem: «In the city of Dublin -says the lyrics-, where the girls are so precious, first put my eyes on sweet Molly Malone…». It is the simple story of a beautiful fishmonger who sells shellfish on the docks in Dublin and died of fevers.

Given the number of inhabitants, I think there are few cities in the world that can boast of having given birth to so many writers as Dublin. Look at the list of the best known among them: Jonathan Swift, Brian Stoker, Sean O `Casey, George Bernard Shaw, Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett, James Joyce y William B. Yeats. Three reached to win the Nobel Prize (Shaw, Beckett y Yeats) and at least two deserved it (Wilde y Joyce). Payroll to cover the imposing Irish literary literary, should be noted two other writers of the first rank: Lawrence Sterne, Tristan Shandy author of the classic, and a contemporary poet born in Ulster, Seamus Heaney, also awarded the Nobel laurel.

Rounding a curve, I saw a house whose walls were painted the faces of Wilde, Joyce y Yeats. I do not think that something similar happens elsewhere in the world

A writer feels at home in Ireland. Or so I felt every time I've stepped on their territory, have been several. On one occasion, was driving by one of his little country roads, just have a couple of highways- when, rounding a curve, I saw a house whose walls were painted the faces of Wilde, Joyce y Yeats. I do not think that something similar happens elsewhere in the world.

In Dublin, during the Bloomsday holiday, held the 16 June of each year in honor of Joyce's "Ulysses", hundreds of Dubliners are dressed in clothes of the twenties to honor the book and explore scenarios where lies the pilgrimage through the Irish capital of the central character of the novel: Leopold Bloom. The festival lasts all day and some streets of downtown traffic cut for small theater groups representing passages of the novel.

In most cities, traffic is cut for a military parade, a religious procession, sports marathon, one day devoted to cyclists… Dublin only closes in tribute to her son, who was a writer.
