Journalist, mountaineer, adventurer and, especially, curious traveler, Sebastián Álvaro, He left us in 2012 This ode to the trip and to discover the most remote and hidden places of this balloon. Then his exhibition «The World at the end of the world was about to be released in Madrid (moments of a life on the edge of the impossible)». It is worth rereading this text.
The world at the end of the world
There was a time when everyone was well: grandiose, wild, nice, bleak. The world of man before and after. "Desolate" has always been a beautiful word, I evokes the landscapes that attract me most: spaces outside the domestication and control of man, places where you feel as if Earth contemplases first. Where you're always passing, where are tiny and vulnerable, where only be assumed, often, risking life. Everything about them is unconscionable: light, distances, loneliness, the silence, the power of ice, the seas and the skies, whether in the form of raging storms or incandescent soles, or the uniqueness of the few human beings have adapted to live in some of them.
In those places that seem to reject with all their might, that many, I spent most of my life
These are places that seem to reject with all their might, that many, but I've always worthwhile visit them. They've spent most of my life. This exhibition is a tribute to some of those places that changed my life, and now want to share with the dreamers of freedom and loneliness pilgrims; with all those who feel the fascination with the beauty of our planet ...
Looking back, I realize they have patterned, largely, the essence of who I am
Now, looking back, I realize they have patterned, largely, the essence of who I am. When I smile my eyes shine in the mountains of Karakorum, when I'm sad, sandstorms trouble me that cloud the heart, when I dream I get reflections Antarctica, winds Patagonia, lights Tibet. For me is the beauty of the world, the silence, the loneliness of the world. Just what is threatened and we need as much as the air we breathe. Of these only I brought these images and feelings that I have caused. Over thirty years of expeditions, in all I felt so happy and already part of my inner landscape. I hope, like me, each image it evokes a feeling and I whisper a story. These are the places where I felt an intense and exhilarating sense of freedom. I never wanted to conquer, they who have conquered me.
